Considering Others (part 1)

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another even as I have loved you
(John 13:35).
Gather together as a family or with a friend and take some time to consider the people around you who might be experiencing life’s challenges and struggles—someone who might not be a follower of Jesus, a co-worker, classmate, family member, neighbor, or friend.
Each person think about someone in specific and share their name out loud.
What might they be struggling with?

Now, everyone take a moment to pray for that person. Ask Jesus, to be present in the life of each person named. Then, take 10–15 minutes to call, text, or e-mail each person. You might say something like, “You were just on my mind today and I wanted to call and encourage you!”
Re-gather and report.

How were your friends impacted? Celebrate together that Christ’s love is being extended!
This week, take to the streets with what you just learned. How can you represent Christ to others in a tangible way? Here are some ideas, but feel free to get creative and come up with your own:
  • Mowing a widow’s lawn
  • Paying a visit to a shut in
  • Inviting neighbors for a cookout
  • Delivering sweets to a neighbor
  • Volunteering at a homeless shelter
  • Reaching out to a “lonely” friend
“We were well pleased to impart to you not only the Gospel but also our own lives.”
(1 Thessalonians 2:8–9).
